Working exclusively in the finest quality Harris Tweed in bright and vibrant colours.
Working exclusively in the finest quality Harris Tweed, Castaway Craft’s Fiona Mitchell creates an innovative range of affordable handmade items, from kilt style shoulder bags and coin purses, to hats, cushions and notebooks. The material she uses is far removed from the traditional image of Harris Tweed, with bright and vibrant colours a feature of her work.
Fiona’s business was born, appropriately, on the island of Harris back in 2001 when she began making cushion covers from the local tweed. Before long she was running her own shop and supplying goods to a number of retailers in the Western Isles. A desire to move back to her native Orkney saw her successfully transplant Castaway Crafts to Dounby in 2009. Since then the business has continued to expand, with a new shop opened in the village in 2014.
Fiona now has customers throughout the UK and around the world. And she still supplies goods to outlets in the Western Isles, maintaining a unique working connection between two distinct island communities.
