Sheila Fleet Jewellery

"I'm inspired by where I live"

Sheila Fleet was brought up on a farm in South Ronaldsay in a landscape marked by time. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art and went on to gain an OBE and Honorary Degree. Her distinctive designs are collected all over the world and are known for their vibrant enamel colours and fine hand finish.

Over the years many of her collections have been influenced by Orkney’s rich heritage and the creative talents of our ancestors. New collection, Lunar, joins Runic, Ogham, Skyran, Standing Stones and Stone Circles to name but a few collections inspired by the spirit of the past.

Lunar has its origins in stone age rock carvings found at the Ness of Brodgar between Orkney’s two great ceremonial circles, the Ring of Brodgar and the Standing Stones of Stenness. The Ring of Brodgar has been described as a lunar observatory and perhaps these carvings, or cup marks, were made at full moon to signify an important occasion or to follow passing time. Using a technique known as reticulation Sheila’s has created contemporary jewellery from the ancient texture of the moon’s surface and the artistically carved rough rocks of our ancestors.

New collection Lunar is available exclusively at Meet the Designer events and in Sheila’s own shops and concessions until end June 2016 when it will become available on
