Glasgow showcase for Orkney makers

Eight talented local makers from Orkney will be representing the islands at a major industry event in Glasgow in January.

Scotland’s Trade Fair runs between the 21st and 23rd at the SEC and attracts thousands of buyers from businesses and stores across the UK. The Orkney Crafts Association members will join nearly 500 other companies to showcase their products.

Taking part this year will be jewellery designers Aurora Jewellery, Celina Rupp Jewellery, Ortak, Sheila Fleet Jewellery and Zoe Davidson Jewellery. They’ll be joined by knitwear and textile designers Hume Sweet Hume and Kirsteen Stewart, as well as ceramics artist Elaine Henderson.

The 2018 Orkney Craft Trail will also be launched at the event, highlighting the workshops and showrooms of local makers in the islands. Visitors are welcome to stop off and see them in action as they create their handcrafted items.

The Orkney Crafts Association members will be part of a wider Orcadian influence in Glasgow over the weekend, with local food and drink members also travelling to Scotland’s Speciality Food Show at the same time.

The Digital Orkney project has been part financed by the Scottish Government and the European Community Orkney LEADER 2014-2020 Programme.
