Get creative with new videos from Orkney designer

A Creative Orkney member and art and fashion designer has launched a new video series, aimed at encouraging people of all skill levels to get creative.

Kirkwall-based designer and entrepreneur, Kirsteen Stewart, who has spent 10 years developing her own design and retail businesses, will launch the first episodes in an online series of videos that will teach viewers some of the techniques and tips to help them create their own unique designs and artwork.

The series will be made available initially via Kirsteen's official website, with the first mini-taster class being offered at the price of £1 to download.

Kirsteen, who also lectures in art at Orkney College UHI, says she hopes to help inspire people to embrace their creativity - whether that be as a hobby, to enhance their skills or as the first steps in a new career.

She said: "Having worked as a designer I know how satisfying and beneficial having a creative outlet can be. What students learn while studying art and design teaches the building blocks which can be applied to all aspects of life - for example analytical thinking, innovation and ideation, along with enhancing wellbeing and a sense of fun and spontaneity. With this course, I'm hoping people will use some of the techniques I've learned throughout my career.

"Having a creative outlet can be endlessly rewarding and although some, like myself, look to turn this into their career, I think there's a real recognition nowadays that being able to express yourself is important, no matter what walk of life you're from.

"Making a video series like this has been a new experience for me and hopefully it'll connect me to people from far and wide. I'm hoping people will be inspired to try their hand at the methods in the videos and I'm so excited to see what they come up with."
