Fiona Chautard from Emergents will be presenting the Trends Workshop

Orkney’s creative community is being encouraged to take advantage of a series of special workshops in Stromness next week.

Experts from Emergents will be heading north on the 22nd and 23rd of March to host two days worth of free activities in the town’s library.

From learning how to grow your business to an overview of international lifestyle trends, the events will contain everything local crafts, fashion and textiles businesses need to help them on the path to success.

Emergents is a community interest company, contracted by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, that is all about supporting and helping develop creative talent across the Highlands and Islands. They provide mentoring, training, advice and networking in communities as far afield as Lewis and Harris in the west and Unst in the north.

Next week Orkney will be the focus of the group’s work. On offer will be:

  • Growing Pains – A Remedy – open to all creative businesses looking to grow.
  • Networking Event – a chance to meet others working in the same sector and the Emergents experts.
  • Working with Trends – an overview of international colour, fashion and lifestyle trends for craft, fashion and textile businesses.

There are also three special ‘one-to-one’ events focused on writing and fashion, textiles and crafts. Those interested are asked to register their interest as soon as possible.

‘We are delighted to be returning to Orkney with a fantastic programme of inspirational and informative events over two days,’ said Pamela Conacher, Director of Craft, Fashion and Textiles with Emergents. ‘Orkney has a craft community that is the envy of the rest of Scotland and is recognised for creative work of the highest calibre. We are looking forward to sharing ideas, new opportunities and ways of working as well as meeting up with businesses old and new’.

Edgar Balfour, Development Manager for Orkney Crafts Association, said: ‘The Emergents workshops are an ideal starting point for anyone in Orkney’s burgeoning crafts sector planning to launch, grow or develop their business,’ He continued: ‘Sharing ideas is such a valuable way of getting inspiration and it’s something we’re very good at in the islands. I hope our local creative talents take advantage of the advice on offer from the Emergents team and help bring more recognition to our already excellent crafts sector’.

The events all take place on the 22nd and 23rd of March in the Stromness Library and, as places are limited, those planning to attend are asking to book their place quickly.
